The Good
The main selling-point for this magnesium supplement is the inclusion of magnesium threonate, a synthetic magnesium compound which is great for brain health. As a patented form, it’s harder to find in supplements. There’s also some well-absorbed magnesium bisglycinate for sleep, providing a third of the magnesium in this supplement, which supports neurotransmitters. It's vegan-friendly, making it suitable for plant-based diets.
The Bad
Whilst “marine magnesium” which makes up 44% of the magnesium in these capsules may sound great on the label, it’s chemically similar to inorganic magnesium oxide, which is far less absorbed than “chelated” forms. The inclusion of bamboo extract as a filler, and the absence of vitamin B6 which would support absorption, are additional drawbacks to consider.
Conclusion
We feel many people may benefit more from alternatives with a better absorption profile and added vitamin B6 for increased health benefits.
